Ah…remember paper dolls?
August 7, 2007 |
When we made the 12-hour drive to my in-laws’ house last month, I scoured the Internet for car-friendly activities to keep my kids busy. My daughter loves all things arts and crafts and she loves dolls, and my son loves cutting paper, so paper dolls seemed perfect. And they were! Besides keeping them busy and sparking their imaginations with creative (and non-battery-operated) play, scissors provide some much-needed work with fine motor skills, even for 2- and 3-year-olds. Just be sure to use the blunt-edge kids’ scissors, now on sale everywhere with back-to-school items. It’s a perfect activity for home or on the road. Of course, you’ll generate some scraps and a general mess, but a quick sweep with the vacuum cleaner is a small price to pay for a little peace and quiet on a 650-mile road trip.
Bonus: you’ll get nostalgic thinking about your own paper dolls from your own childhood. I specifically remember an Alice in Wonderland set I had, complete with fat, smiling Cheshire Cat. Here are some links for you to visit so you can print them right at home.
